Numedalslågen is one of the best salmon rivers in Norway, and listed in the "Top 10" fishing spots of the country. Many places have been adapted for sport fishing. Holmfoss is one of the best places to fish for salmon in the lower half of the anadromous portion of the river. Each year fishermen catch about 1,400 kg near Holmfoss. Salmonfishing takes place from both the boat and the shore, the most common types of gear are: ground, wobblers, lures and shrimp (Numedalslågen just like the river Drammen, has an exemption from the general prohibition for the use of shrimp).
